Casa de Luz

What We Do

From a safe bed to a path forward.

From housing, to food, to transportation, to health and legal services — at Casa de Luz, we are all about community. We make sure everyone is clothed, fed, and in good health while they await asylum.

A shared meal — the collective kitchen feeds residents and neighbors alike.

Programs & Projects

A community for those made to feel they didn’t belong anywhere.

The refugees we serve are running from governments and people who want them ostracized, hurt, or erased. We strive for a better tomorrow — because no human being is illegal.

Housing

A three-story building with 20+ rooms, queen bunk beds, and 6 bathrooms — comfortably and safely housing more than 50 residents at a time.

Food & Nutrition

A collective kitchen — indoor and outdoor — where residents cook for themselves and we serve nutritious meals to others in need who come to our door.

Transportation

We get residents to health and legal appointments, grocery stores, and — most critically — to their asylum-request appointment at the border, on time.

Legal Services

We advocate for residents and, through our network, connect them with the right people to guide them through the paperwork and appointments ahead.

Health Services

We help residents find dental, medical, and mental-health care in the neighborhood — and help cover the cost for those who can't afford it.

Safety & Community

A temporary home for those without one, among others seeking the same. 65 countries still criminalize LGBTQ+ people; here, residents are safe to be themselves.

We create the community they were denied.

Workshops, shared meals, and celebrations give residents back something they lost on the journey: the feeling of belonging.

We make sure everyone is clothed, fed, and in good health. No one is turned away, and no one is ever charged.
